Eviant T7 7-inch portable TV

Digital TV in carry all form factor

By John Virata

Back in the early 1980s, a friend of mine got a new TV for Christmas. What was cool about it was that it was portable and powered by batteries, which let us watch TV in our treehouse. It was a hoot to watch TV in places other than the living room. Today, with the advent of digital TV, those analog TVs have gone by the wayside. Eviant Inc.,  has released a 7-inch portable color TV that harkens back to those days of portable television.

The Eviant T7 is compact and features a rechargeable battery. It features a widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio, 480x234 resolution 7-inch screen, and is available in black, white and red. It measures 7.3"x1.1"x5.7" and ships with a handy carry case for easy travel.  It has all the adjustments of a regular TV and features a built in ATSC/NTSC TV tuner. Set up of the system is similar to that of a regular TV. With the Eviant T7 you install one of the two provided antennas, power the unit on, and with the remote control  access the TV's menu and select the satellite icon. Here you then scan for channels.

This is the same as setting up a regular TV to receive over the air channels.  After the scan, you can watch TV like any other TV. In my case, I had to use the more powerful antenna and move it a bit higher than the surface the TV was standing on. After this minor adjustment the TV received an adequate signal.

So how is the picture quality? For the most part, the picture quality is what you'd expect for a 7-inch TV that is priced at $169.  The colors were a bit oversaturated and there was occasional pixilation when changing the channel, but that clears up once the signal is locked in. The audio is a bit weak as well, reminiscent of AM radio, but then again, this TV is $169 and you can watch TV anywhere you wish to carry it-the park, at the game, in the car, or even in your treehouse!
