http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12507/7380303?cpt=8&wpid=2637 Fri, 29 Jun 2018 03:14:12 +0000 Protecting Your Family From Hackers WAAY 31 Anchor Najahe Sherman talks with a ethical hacker about measures you can take to protect your family from being hacked http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12507/7380303?cpt=8&wpid=2637 WAAY ABC Huntsville, AL we all know cyber security is a critical issue... huntsville recently took center stage with the topic at the national cyber summit earlier this month. waay 31 news anchor najahe sherman spoke with the experts... she explains how you can protect your family members from becoming victims and puts a local family to the test. mother of three oyuki sampson and her husband phillip told me they take internet security seriously... not just for themselves...but for their three children as well. phillip is meticulous about changing his passwords.. oyuki sampson/ mother of three: also your phone, you change it often. sometimes i want to get on his phone and i'm like, okay you changed it again. meet ethical hacker joshua crumbaugh he hacks into computer networks for companies and organizations in order to test or evaluate its security... and was a guest speaker that the recent national cyber summit in huntsville. he shows the sampsons just how easily an internet thief can access their information. joshua crumbaugh/ ethical hacker: so what i did with this one, was i sent an email that appeared to be from microsoft and it said, hey, there is a critical security patch that you need to run. once phillip and oyuki clicked on the link.. our hacker was directly accessing their computer and everything on it...even getting a direct view of their web camera. joshua crumbaugh/ ethical hacker: really anything i could possibly want to do on that computer now, i could from that computer and they wouldn't know because it was happening in the background. oyuki sampson/ mother of three: it's eye opening. you think you're safe but you're really not. phillip sampson/ husband the thing i am most surprised with is how easy he accomplished those tasks. here is how to protect yourself from internet thieves... experts say the number one best thing anyone can do is to be careful of what you click on. if there are any red flags, pay attention and be very careful before you click on something. second- make sue your keep all of your devices updated. a good practice is, once a month, sit down at your computer and update everything. lastly, keep a very strong password. joshua crumbaugh/ ethical hacker: the best advice i can give to people is to use a pass phrase. it doesn't have to be super complex. length is going to make your password more secure than anything else. the sampsons say they will take this advice to heart and make the necessary changes to protect themselves and their family. najahe sherman/waay 31 news: another important tip the experts gave us... purchase a web cam cover for your computer... that way hackers can't spy you. najahe sherman, waay 31
