' a ' once popular movie theater in hanford is getting a second chance to stay in business.. ken: its all thanks - to a local company called " movie heroes "... the " metro four cinema " on ... "seventh" street will remain open. it was set to close two months ago because of financial problems. but the new owners have installed a " netflix " type system... to keep the movie theater alive. cbs47's connie tran shows us how it works.. connie tran, reporting the metro four cinema here in hanford was on the brink of closing; but they've since been open for the past two and half weeks because of some superheroes and their very innovative new system that is keeping the movie theater alive nats and for only the brave you guys are going to be in number two the smell of popcorn... and the anticipation of getting that perfect seat... nothing beats going to the movies. it's just not the same experience mai xong has been working at metro four cinema for years... she says when the hanford movie theater was close to shutting it's doors in the summer... they were extremely sad mai xong, general manager, metro 4 cinema we have a lot of regulars here that tell me that they grew up coming here stacy daly, movie heroes most smaller theaters, they don't have the ability to keep going because of the ticket sales because of what the studios take that's when oakhurst residents "matt sconce" and his partner "stacy daly" stepped in. they're the "movie heroes". matt sconce, movie heroes he said hey the met cinema is closed; i said ah that is a bummer; he said what if it didn't have to be closed... he's like what if we saved it with a netflix style membership system that's how sconce saved the met cinema in oakhurst five years ago... and it's been thriving. now he's doing the same in hanford. so... how does it work? well... people can buy a monthly membership... 20 dollars for adults, ten dollars for children. q: and they can come in and watch as many... they could be here all day? a: ya they could. we have people that we think are they living at the theater? this moviegoer believes it's a great idea. no cg we come quite a bit so i think it would be beneficial for us but sconce says the theater isn't in the clear just yet... they need a thousand people to sign up for memberships... they've gotten 200 so far. but he's hopeful hanford movie lovers will come together to keep the tradition alive. matt sconce, movie heroes saving things that people care about is one of the best things that a human being can do connie tran, reporting you can sign up for a membership either in the movie theater or online, savethemetro4 dot com; we'll have that link up on our website; your central valley dot com. in hanford; connie
