http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12464/6830241?cpt=8&wpid=2637 Wed, 15 Mar 2017 12:13:29 +0000 How Hillcrest High School Students Feel About Acting in Haml How Hillcrest High School Students Feel About Acting in Hamlet http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12464/6830241?cpt=8&wpid=2637 KTVX ABC 4 Salt Lake City you are watching abc 4 utah, good morning utah. >> emily: welcome back everybody hillcrest high school is set to perform hamlet over the weekend. we appreciate you being here. this is an obvious question but one thing hamlet is considered by many to be the greatest play ever written? nathaniel, go give a good answer. >> okay well, shakespeare does a brilliant job of combining the mental and emotional disconnect that people often have ended his very relatable. and the intertwining of thought and emotion is just, it is really brilliant and something that is so human and something that is not as well versed in lots of other plays. i thing hamlet really showcases that beautifully. >> emily: who do you play? >> i play claudius. >> emily: i love that.that is quite the character. what does working on this works closely teach you about human beings? >> for me gertrude is a really hard character because she makes some really interesting choices. like marrying her dead husband's brother. and it taught me a lot about the human condition and how to articulate that to the audience. and i had to really dig deep to understand her. so he worked my empathy muscle so to speak. >> emily: i like this.all very deep. and what is hillcrest version of this play? what is about this production that is different than people might be used to? >> it always has a timelessness. meaning, the time. is not clear. it mixes 15th-century denmark with modern day. and that creates for a very relatable experience to the audience so they can relate this to their own life. >> emily: you are playing hamlet what is it like to put a voice to some of the greatest thoughts ever put down on paper? >> at the very beginning it was kind of hard kind of difficult. >> emily: a daunting task. >> it is. it carries a lot of weight. you feel like you need to serve justice to this. but over time it was just so foreign to me at first. but after i started to read and understand the different thoughts, i realize that most of these thoughts are not very foreign to us but we all think about some of the same things that hamlet thinks about. it is just in different ways or with different periods of his life. but it is very human in a way. >> emily: i like them very human. that is a theme that all three of you have had in your answers. when can we see this nathaniel, what is the plan for the production? >> it runs this weekend. we run friday the 17th, saturday the 18th and monday the 20th. >> emily: right, right there at hillcrest high school. you also will spoken i can tell things are going to be great this weekend. thank you for coming to represent the entire cast. in this production a lot of hard work and so many hours. this is a preview on your screen. fantastic, thank you for being here. mark mason can be found on our website www.good4utah.com/gmu including the location, time and
