[take pkgoutcue:visit lafayette ááápkgáá}<"it's a big deal for us."festival co organizer, pat mire says what especially sticks out this year is that more than half of the films featured were created by women. "we're getting a lot of young women, film makers who are putting out really good products, telling really great stories and we provide a platform for them to go to more international audiences" the festival began with the world premiere of rifles and rosary beads.it's a documentary about louisiana native mary gauthier and her journey of writing songs with combat veterans to help them their trauma into power."songs can be transformative. there is a magic in song. if you are willing to take a risk and be vulnerable that can alcamize trauma and create an opportunity."jason trente is one of the veterans involved in the project."talking about some of the darkest days of your life, but there is something that happens during that process afterwards and you hear the finished product and i think that's where the healing process begins." besides opening the door for many prospective filmmakers, mire ... an acclaimed director himself with such credits as "against the tide" and "dirty rice" ...says what he is most proud of is how the festival shines a positive light on cajun culture."but you are bringing a lot of people here to lafayette who are making deals and some of them want to come back and a lot of these people, their families come back, not just to the film festival, they come back to visit lafayette." in addition to film screenings, there will also be panel discussions, workshops, q and a's with the filmmakers, and live music. we will post a full schedule of all festival events on our website. live in the studio, news 15 focused on family and
